Bonham Carter, Mia Wasikowska, Michael Sheen, Matt Lucas, Crispin Glover,

Bin schon echt gespannt darauf!

Frankenweenie Coming in 3D Black and White?

Source: Ben Mortimer

Despite still being hard at work on Alice in Wonderland, it would appear that Tim Burton is in talks with his collaborators about his next project, a feature-length, stop-motion version of his 1984 short, Frankenweenie.

ComingSoon.net recently spoke with Allison Abbate, the producer behind the forthcoming Wes Anderson film, Fantastic Mr. Fox, as well as Burton's previous stop-motion film The Corpse Bride. During our conversation, she gave us a bit more information how Frankenweenie is shaping up.

According to Abbate, it is possible that the film could well be in black and white, as well as in 3D. Certainly neither option has been ruled out, giving the slimmest of hopes that the film will look like some sort of '50s B-movie.

She did, however, confirm that the film will take around two years to complete, and will be shot in London. This isn't really a surprise, as her previous films, The Corpse Bride and Fantastic Mr. Fox were both shot at Three Mills Studios in the city's 'east end.'

ALICE IS A MONSTER! Opens $45M Friday

Disney's Alice In Wonderland is a monster hit. It clearly becomes the best March release ever with $45 million on Friday. If that holds up, the Tim Burton-directed, Johnny Depp starring fantasy flick could have a $115M-$120M opening weekend for the biggest 3D pic debut ever. (These numbers are blowing away Avatar's first weekend.) The only other major newcomer this weekend was Overture's Brooklyn's Finest directed by Anton Fuqua and starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle and Ethan Hawke opened like most R-rated action films: it had a $5.2M Friday for a likely $14.5M weekend.

Alice in Wonderland Opens to Massive $210.3M Worldwide

Walt Disney Pictures' Alice in Wonderland took over the worldwide box office this weekend, earning $116.3 million domestically and $94 million overseas for three-day total of $210.3 million! The domestic figure from 3,728 theaters marks the sixth-biggest opening weekend of all time and is a new record for a film opening in March, destroying the $70.9 million that 300 made in 2007. It's the biggest opening ever for Tim Burton (his previous top opener was Planet of the Apes' $68.5 million), the biggest non-sequel release of all time, and the biggest 3D release ever, besting the $77 million that Avatar earned in December. "Alice" is also the largest debut ever for a winter release, surpassing The Passion of The Christ ($83.8 million).

"Alice" took over the top spot in foreign markets from Avatar, which had been No. 1 for 11 consecutive weeks. Overseas, the film debuted at 5,600 theaters in 41 markets, which represents only about 60% of the international market. The $94 million marks the biggest international opening weekend ever for a movie released in the January-April period.

Alice in Wonderland also broke Avatar's previous IMAX record of $9.5 million by earning $11.9 million on 188 of the large format screens - that's an average of $64,197 per site!

Directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover, Matt Lucas, Mia Wasikowska, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall, Christopher Lee, Paul Whitehouse and Barbara Windsor, the fantasy-adventure was made for about $200 million.
