Prepare for the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
20th Century Fox has announced a Memorial Day 2014 release for their upcoming Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel, now officially known as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Released last year, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a box office smash, grossing over $480 million worldwide.
Rupert Wyatt, who directed the original, will return to direct with Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa providing the screenplay. Returning producers include Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
The May 23rd release falls one week after Marvel Studios' still unrevealed feature and one week before Disney•Pixar's The Good Dinosaur.

James Franco Not in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes?
Twentieth Century Fox Film is moving forward with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for a May 23, 2014 release, but Rise of the Planet of the Apes star James Franco tells MTV that he hasn't heard anything lately from the production.
"I was going to be a small part of the next one," he said. "There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct. But there was one scene, between Caesar and my character, maybe even just like on a video that was left behind, but then a lot of things happened, like [former Fox co-chairman] Tom Rothman who was a big part of the first movie, left. Now Rupert's not a part of it so I don't know. My guess is I won't be in it. Nobody's talked to me since Rupert left."
Cloverfield and Let Me In helmer Matt Reeves is now directing Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for the studio. The first film, released in 2011, earned $481.8 million at the worldwide box office.
