Will Smith Says Hancock 2 is Happening
JoBlo caught up with Will Smith, who revealed that a Hancock sequel is "definitely" happening:
When we asked Will if he'd ever be up for playing another superhero he replied that there were a lot of unexplored characters in the HANCOCK universe that would be ripe for a sequel and confirmed that we'll definitely see the rumored HANCOCK 2 in a few years.
The Peter Berg-directed film, which was made for $150 million, earned $624.4 million worldwide.

Hoffentlich wird der Film dann besser als Teil 1.

Hancock director offers up sequel spoilers
Peter Berg, director of the superhero movie Hancock, has some ideas for a sequel if one ever comes to pass, and he shared his ideas with SCI FI Wire. (Spoilers ahead!)
At the end of last year's Hancock, it was revealed that Will Smith's superpowered character was actually an immortal god who became vulnerable only when in the presence of his goddess companion (Charlize Theron). Berg confirmed that a sequel would elaborate on the film's mythology.
"There might be another god out there," Berg said in an exclusive interview last month in Pasadena, Calif. "Might be another one."
If two gods render each other mortal, imagine what kind of wrench a third would throw into the mix. Also, imagine the casting to match up with Will Smith and Charlize Theron! In the mythology of Hancock, all the gods supposedly died out except for our heroes, so a third deity would tweak the mythos.
Berg also confirmed that the subplot of Jason Bateman's publicist character should pick up where it left off in Hancock, where he's starting his charity campaign.
Of course, Columbia Pictures would love another Will Smith blockbuster for the earliest possible summer position. Smith and Berg, however, are in no rush. "They like to fast-track it, but Will's busy, I'm pretty busy," Berg continued. "We're excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don't feel a burning imperative to go right back into it."

Hancock 2 Screenwriters Hired
Columbia Pictures has hired screenwriters Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to pen Hancock 2, the sequel to the Will Smith superhero movie that grossed $624.4 million worldwide last year. The Hollywood Reporter says the original producing team is expected to return.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, though the writers will work with Smith and director Peter Berg to build on the world hinted at in the first movie. Fierro spent several seasons as a writer-producer on FX's "The Shield" and also worked on Fox's "24" and Showtime's "Dexter." Mazzara was a showrunner on Starz's "Crash," wrote for NBC's "Life" and worked with Fierro on "The Shield."

Charlize Theron Returning for Hancock 2
Director Peter Berg has confirmed to MTV that Charlize Theron will return alongside Will Smith for Hancock 2. If you haven't watched the first film, what follows is a spoiler!
The big reveal in the first film is that Smith and Theron's characters are immortal gods who become vulnerable when near each other. Berg added that for the sequel we can expect the appearance of at least one more all-powerful god, but he won't reveal who will play the role.
"We have [someone in mind]," Berg said. "I'm not gonna tell you who, but we have!"
Columbia Pictures has not yet set a release date for the film.

Bateman Talks Hancock 2
On Wednesday, ComingSoon.net asked Jason Bateman about the status of Hancock 2 since it was reported in Variety recently that the comedic actor will reprise his role in the Columbia Pictures sequel. Bateman told us it wasn't true, at least not yet.
"I only know what I've read," Bateman said. "No one has contacted me or anybody that represents me to ask if we were interested. I don't know anything about it. It's surprising to me that Variety would write that story because they're usually pretty well vetted before they report something and that was completely false. I haven't heard anything about it. The whole thing about me being on board could not be farther from the truth. I would love to be a part of the film, but I haven't heard anything about it."

Director Peter Berg says don't expect 'Hancock 2' anytime soon
If there is anything Sony Pictures is keen on right now it's setting up a sequel to last year's blockbuster anti-superhero movie "Hancock." A screenplay is in the works and star Will Smith appears to have an open calendar in front of him, but director Peter Berg certainly doesn't.
Speaking yesterday while meeting with a few select members of the press to discuss his upcoming event flick "Battleship," Berg says he thinks "Hancock 2" will happen, just not anytime soon. Especially with the "Friday Night Lights" creator shooting "Battleship" next year for a 2011 release and then planning on immediately going into production on the more serious drama "Lone Survivor."
"There are so many cooks in that particular kitchen that are so busy and Will's kind of taken time off to be with his kids and his kids are now making all kinds of films and there are so many people involved in that from Will to his partner James Lassiter to Akiva [Goldsmith] to Michael Man and myself," Berg says. "To get us all in the same room where we can talk and then agree on anything? You'll never meet a group of people who will have a harder time agreeing on anything. It's like the Israeli peace process times a thousand in how tough it is for us all. But I think it will happen, we just all have to get in the same room with some consistency."
