Grünes Licht für Fortsetzung?
Nachdem "Superman Returns", der Neustart des Franchise, in den USA nun mehr als 200 Millionen Dollar eingespielt hat (weltweite Einnahmen: 390 Mio. $) gibt es laut den Kollegen von IESB.net jetzt grünes Licht für eine Fortsetzung! Der Regisseur Bryan Singer soll mit Warner Bros. am vergangenen Wochenende eine Vereinbarung getroffen haben um das Sequel voranzutreiben und das Studio plant im nächsten Herbst, vielleicht im September, mit der Produktion zu beginnen.
Allerdings wird es Einschränkungen im Budget geben. Während man für "Returns" noch 208 Mio. $ Produktionskosten zur Verfügung gehabt hat werden sich die Kosten für den nächsten Teil auf etwa 140 - 175 Millionen Dollar inkl. Marketing belaufen. Dafür darf aber auch viel mehr Action als im Vorgänger erwartet werden. Der Mann aus Stahl soll den Kampf seines Lebens ausfechten und das Publikum darf sich auf einen ultimativen Schurken aus dem DC Universum freuen. Wir dürfen gespannt sein und halten euch weiterhin auf dem Laufenden!

Über mehr Action würde ich mich auch freuen. Teil 1 war nicht schlecht, nur etwas zu langatmig.

Allerdings hat Bryan Singer durchaus Interesse daran das Skript zum "X-Men" spinoff "Wolverine" zu lesen.

SCI FI Wire hatte die Gelegenheit sich mit Michael Dougherty, dem Co-Autor von "Superman Returns", über die kommende Fortsetzung der Comicverfilmung zu unterhalten und er erzählte den Kollegen, dass man im neuen Film zumindest einen Schurken aus dem DC Comics Franchise erwarten kann! Dougherty meinte, dass er wahrscheinlich mit seinem Schreibpartner Dan Harris wieder mit Bryan Singer am Sequel arbeiten wird. "Wir sprechen darüber. Wir tauschen mit Bryan Ideen aus. Große Ideen. Actionbepackte Ideen."
Regisseur Singer sagte, dass der nächste Teil dem zweiten "Star Trek" Film ähneln wird und Dougherty fand diesen Vergleich passend. "Ich denke es wird ein mehr actionorientierter Film. Nochmal, der einfache Vergleich war 'X-Men' zu 'X2' oder 'Star Trek' zu 'Star Trek II'. Ich meine, ich weiß, dass Bryan gesagt hat, dass wir es 'Wrath of Khan' mäßig machen sollen und damit meint er, 'Lasst uns das hernehmen, was wir bereits etabliert haben - das ist jetzt aus dem Weg - und machen wir es einfach kürzer, fester und mehr gefüllt mit Action."

Dieser äußerte sich jetzt in der amerikanischen Talkshow "Monday's Late Show" zur Fortsetzung der Comic-Verfilmung: Er wird im 2. Teil, der den Titel "The Man of Steel" trägt, wiederkommen und ein weiteres Mal die Rolle des Erzfeindes spielen. Allerdings wird die Fortsetzung laut Spacey, erst in ein paar Jahren ihren Weg auf die Leinwand finden.

Kreativer Titel.  Aber gut das Spacey wieder dabei ist, er hat seine Rolle gut gespielt.

Tja die Titelwahl find ich auch irgendwie überraschend. Ist so als ob man einem James Bond Film den Filmtitel '007' verpasst.
Naja egal, wenn Nummer 2 ähnlich gut wie der 1te Teil wird, ist der Titel nur nebensächlich.

Spacey erneut als Lex Luthor unterwegs
Regisseur Bryan Singer, der momentan mit seiner Version des Hitler-Attentats Valkyrie in den Schlagzeilen ist (Tom Cruise soll darin den Attentäter Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg verkörpern), plant schon seinen nächsten Streich. Die Rede ist von einem Sequel zu Superman Returns. Wieder mit dabei ist Kevin Spacey, der den Bösewicht Lex Luthor spielen wird und damit Meldungen dementiert, dass er sich vorerst vom Film abwenden und nur noch der Theaterbühne zuwenden wird. Er verschiebt lediglich die Prioritäten und setzt dabei das Theater an erste Stelle. Das Drehbuch zu Man of Steel, so der Titel des Sequels, schreibt wieder Michael Dougherty, der auch schon den Vorgänger verfasste. Die Dreharbeiten beginnen nächstes Jahr und 2009 soll der Streifen dann in die Kinos kommen. |

A user on BlueTights' The Planet Forum got a chance to meet Superman: Man of Steel co-writer Michael Dougherty at the U.S. Capitol and asked him about the sequel:
I asked him if he was a part of the sequel because everything I have seen says [Bryan] Singer and [Dan] Harris are writing the script and that he isn't mentioned. He confirmed that he is writing it with the two just like the last picture. I then expressed to him that I was hoping the delays of Superman: The Man of Steel weren't true. He said that they were on track and that the goal is still to have the movie out in the Summer of 2009. He seemed a little hesitant about it but did his best to try and reassure that it will get done by then. I asked if he could give any more info on the film. He responded, "There are TWO villains," and he smiled.
Brandon Routh is returning in the title role for the Warner Bros. release.

Und jetzt wird es wohl noch länger dauern, denn Justice League of America bekommt den Produktionsslot von Superman: The Man of Steel.

Speaking of DC Comics pics, it is highly unlikely that Bryan Singer will return
to shoot the next Superman movie. (The director is finishing up Tom Cruise's
Nazi film Valkyrie, and prepping The Mayor of Castro Street). (variety.com)

Not long after we mentioned this article from Variety stating that Bryan Singer is highly unlikely to direct the Superman Returns sequel, Latino Review posted more possible bad news for the second film -- Brandon Routh may not return either as Clark Kent/Superman. According to the site, the actor that lands the Superman role in George Miller's Justice League will go on to star in a separate Superman movie as well. Again, none of this is official until the studio actually confirms or denies these rumors (about both Singer and Routh), so it will be a wait-and-see game for now.

I just got off the phone with a very high-ranking mole who is absolutely in a position to know what's happening with this film, and he tells me that it is "absolutely false" that Brandon Routh is out as Superman for the stand-alone series.
The only thing that has been determined is that JUSTICE LEAGUE will not feature the actors from the other films. That's it. Right now, Routh is still Warner's choice to return if they make another stand-alone SUPERMAN film, and that's based on conversations as recently as a few weeks ago. Don't believe this one, kids. Routh's still the Man of Steel.

"Had 'Superman' worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009," he adds. "But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."

Returns hatte enttäuscht. Der Film hat nicht so funktioniert wie erhofft. Wenn er
2006 funktioniert hätte wäre eine Fortsetzung bereits in Arbeit. Nun wird es einen
erneuten Neustart geben und ein "Batman vs. Superman" Film wird erstmal nicht
kommen. Übrigens möchte man den Film dunkler machen:
Like the recent Batman sequel -- which has become the highest-grossing film of the
year thus far -- Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed
in the same brooding tone as "The Dark Knight." Creatively, he sees exploring the
evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.' DC properties.
"We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," he says.
That goes for the company's Superman franchise as well.

The interview focuses on Spacey’s career as a theatrical actor, and his work as the artistic director of the Old Vic theatre. But it does comment on the fact that Spacey will be returning to the role of Luthor in the follow-up to 2006’s Superman Returns.
What this means on the heels of the news that Warner Brothers is looking for a “darker tone” to the next film in the Superman franchise is unclear. It is similarly uncertain if Brandon Routh, who played Superman/Clark Kent, or director Bryan Singer will be back.
