From the studio that brought you "The Rookie" and "Remember the Titans" comes "Invincible," inspired by the true story of Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg), a man with nothing to lose who ignored the staggering odds and made his dream come true. When the coach (Greg Kinnear) of Papale's beloved hometown football team hosted an unprecedented open tryout, the public consensus was that it was a waste of time -- no one good enough to play professional football was going to be found this way. Certainly no one like Papale -- a down-on-his-luck, 30 year-old, substitute teacher and part-time bartender who never even played college football. But against these odds, Papale made the team and soon found himself living every fan's fantasy -- moving from his cheap seats in the upper deck to standing on the field as a professional football player.

Das Nachsehen hatte der etwas zugkräftiger eingeschätzte Neuling "Crank", der es nach solidem Debüt am Freitag mit 13,0 Mio. Dollar nur auf Platz zwei schaffte. Dahinter meldete sich mit "The Wicker Man " ein weiterer Neuling. Das Horror-Remake mit Nicolas Cage spielte 11,8 Mio. Dollar ein. Auf der Siegesstraße befindet sich indes weiterhin der Indiehit "Little Miss Sunshine", der in 1600 Locations weitere 9,7 Mio. Dollar anhäufte und nun gesamt bereits bei 35,8 Mio. Dollar hält. Das Wochenendergebnis bedeutet ein sattes Plus von 31 Prozent im Vergleich zum Vorwochenende. "The Illusionist" kam an seinem ersten Wochenende in Wide Release in 971 Kinos bei bestem Schnitt der Top Ten auf überzeugende 8,0 Mio. Dollar. Mit einem Top-Ten-Gesamteinspiel von 89 Mio. Dollar lag man nur unwesentlich hinter dem Vorjahreswochenende, das mit 91,6 Mio. Dollar abgeschlossen hatte.
