Tom Cruise Signs to Star in Mission: Impossible 5

Following a worldwide gross of $694.7 million for Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions are ready to move forward with a fifth installment and have signed a deal with Tom Cruise to reprise the role of Ethan Hunt and produce.

Deadline says that both Paramount and Skydance have confirmed the signing but they are not saying who is writing and directing or when the release date may be. "Ghost Protocol" was directed by Brad Bird, who has moved on to directing Tomorrowland for Disney.

Deadline adds that they are hearing Christopher McQuarrie will direct, but that is not confirmed yet. The two just teamed up for Jack Reacher last year. That film is in early talks for a sequel as well.
