Llewelyn Moss ist Veteran des Vietnamkriegs. Er jagt in der Nähe von Rio Grande, wo er mehrere Leichen und einen Koffer mit zwei Millionen US-Dollar findet. Moss nimmt den Koffer mit sich.

Es geschehen zwei weitere Morde, woraufhin Moss sich an die Behörden wendet und Schutz für sich sowie seine Ehefrau fordert.
