Plot Summary: When a rogue wave capsizes a luxury cruise ship in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, a small group of survivors find themselves unlikely allies in a battle for their lives. Preferring to test the odds alone, career gambler John Dylan (Josh Lucas) ignores captain's orders (Andre Braugher) to wait below for possible rescue and sets out to find his own way to safety. What begins as a solo mission soon draws others as Dylan is followed by a desperate father (Kurt Russell) searching for his daughter (Emmy Rossum) and her fiancé (Mike Vogel), a young couple who hours before couldn't summon the courage to tell him they were engaged and now face much graver challenges. Along the way they are joined by a single mother (Jacinda Barrett) and her wise-beyond-his-years son (Jimmy Bennett), an anxious stowaway (Mia Maestro) and a despondent fellow passenger (Richard Dreyfuss) who boarded the ship not sure he wanted to live but now knows he doesn't want to die. Determined to fight their way to the surface, the group sets off through the disorienting maze of twisted steel in the upside-down wreckage. As the unstable vessel rapidly fills with water each must draw on skills and strengths they didn't even know they possessed, fighting against time for their own survival and for each other.

Kinocharts USA: Poseidon kurz vorm Absaufen

Nachdem "M:I:III" zwar gut, aber nicht überwältigend startete, hat der US-Kinosommer nun sein erstes Sorgenkind: Wolfgang Petersens in 3555 Kinos gestarteter "Poseidon " lief angesichts seiner Produktionskosten von etwa 150 Mio. Dollar eher gemächlich mit 20,3 Mio. Dollar an und muss nun auf sein Abschneiden außerhalb der USA hoffen, wo schon Petersens letzter Film "Troja" deutlich besser abgeschnitten hatte als in den Vereinigten Staaten. "M:I:III" behielt die Chartspitze mit 24,5 Mio. Dollar: Der Tom-Cruise-Actioner baute akzeptable 49 Prozent ab und hält nach zehn Tagen bei 84,6 Mio. Dollar. Noch deutlich zufriedenstellender ist das Abschneiden von "Die Chaoscamper": Am dritten Wochenende hatte die Komödie ein Minus von lediglich 14 Prozent zu verzeichnen: Nach 9,5 Mio. Dollar am Wochenende hat der Überraschungshit nunmehr bereits 42,8 Mio. Dollar umgesetzt. Einen enttäuschenden Start hatte "Zum Glück geküsst" auf Platz vier. Die in 2541 Kinos gestartete romantische Komödie mit Lindsay Lohan konnte nur 5,5 Mio. Dollar einspielen und landete damit vor dem Horrorfilm "An American Haunting", der auf 3,7 Mio. Dollar kam. Wegen des nicht allzu erbaulichen Starts von "Poseidon" verzeichnete die gesamte Top ten erstmals seit Wochen wieder ein Minus im Vergleich zum Vorjahr, das um etwa 15 Prozent besser war. Nun richten sich die Augen auf "The Da Vinci Code ", der Leben in den Sommer bringen soll.
