Doch dritte "Star Wars"-Trilogie geplant?

"Star Wars": Doch Episode VII - IX?

George Lucas Working on New "Star Wars" Trilogy?

James Cameron's "Avatar" is getting so much hype that George Lucas is now actually considering making an entirely new "Star Wars" trilogy in 3D. We already talked about Lucas converting his old "Star Wars" film to 3D for a theatrical re-release, but this news is not about that. This is about a completely new trilogy.

According to MarketSaw, which claims that this information is from an extremely reliable and connected source, Lucas will not be directing the new films, only producing. Instead, he is trying to get his buddies Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola to take over the helming duties.

After hearing of this rumor, AICN went straight to Lucasfilm, and here is the answer their received: "Lucasfilm is not currently working on a 3D version of the Star Wars movies."

That answer doesn't surprise me, since a studio will never announce anything until they are certain that it will happen. MarketSaw claims that at this point, the new "Star Wars" trilogy is simply being discussed at Lucasfilm. Stay tuned.

Disney to Acquire Lucasfilm, Star Wars Episode 7 Coming in 2015!

The Walt Disney Company announced today it has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm and is planning Star Wars Episode 7 for 2015! In a later conference call, Disney revealed that they are planning a new trilogy starting in 2015 with a new movie coming every other year. They were also asked about "Indiana Jones," but said that they were going to concentrate on the "Star Wars" franchise for now. This is following such big purchases as Pixar and Marvel Entertainment. Here is the full press release:

Continuing its strategy of delivering exceptional creative content to audiences around the world, The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. in a stock and cash transaction. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by Lucasfilm Chairman and Founder, George Lucas.

Under the terms of the agreement and based on the closing price of Disney stock on October 26, 2012, the transaction value is $4.05 billion, with Disney paying approximately half of the consideration in cash and issuing approximately 40 million shares at closing. The final consideration will be subject to customary post-closing balance sheet adjustments.

"Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas," said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. "This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney's unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value."

"For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next," said George Lucas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm. "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."

Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of Lucasfilm, a leader in entertainment, innovation and technology, including its massively popular and "evergreen" Star Wars franchise and its operating businesses in live action film production, consumer products, animation, visual effects, and audio post production. Disney will also acquire the substantial portfolio of cutting-edge entertainment technologies that have kept audiences enthralled for many years. Lucasfilm, headquartered in San Francisco, operates under the names Lucasfilm Ltd., LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, and the present intent is for Lucasfilm employees to remain in their current locations.

Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm, will become President of Lucasfilm, reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Additionally she will serve as the brand manager for Star Wars, working directly with Disney's global lines of business to build, further integrate, and maximize the value of this global franchise. Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.

The acquisition combines two highly compatible family entertainment brands, and strengthens the long-standing beneficial relationship between them that already includes successful integration of Star Wars content into Disney theme parks in Anaheim, Orlando, Paris and Tokyo.

Driven by a tremendously talented creative team, Lucasfilm's legendary Star Wars franchise has flourished for more than 35 years, and offers a virtually limitless universe of characters and stories to drive continued feature film releases and franchise growth over the long term. Star Wars resonates with consumers around the world and creates extensive opportunities for Disney to deliver the content across its diverse portfolio of businesses including movies, television, consumer products, games and theme parks. Star Wars feature films have earned a total of $4.4 billion in global box to date, and continued global demand has made Star Wars one of the world's top product brands, and Lucasfilm a leading product licensor in the United States in 2011. The franchise provides a sustainable source of high quality, branded content with global appeal and is well suited for new business models including digital platforms, putting the acquisition in strong alignment with Disney's strategic priorities for continued long-term growth.

The Lucasfilm acquisition follows Disney's very successful acquisitions of Pixar and Marvel, which demonstrated the company's unique ability to fully develop and expand the financial potential of high quality creative content with compelling characters and storytelling through the application of innovative technology and multiplatform distribution on a truly global basis to create maximum value. Adding Lucasfilm to Disney's portfolio of world class brands significantly enhances the company's ability to serve consumers with a broad variety of the world's highest-quality content and to create additional long-term value for our shareholders.

The Boards of Directors of Disney and Lucasfilm have approved the transaction, which is subject to clearance under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, certain non-United States merger control regulations, and other customary closing conditions. The agreement has been approved by the sole shareholder of Lucasfilm.

Will Harrison Ford Return as Han Solo For Star Wars: Episode VII?

Less than a week ago, Mark Hamill revealed that George Lucas had informed both him and Carrie Fisher of plans for Star Wars: Episode VII. Today, EW is reporting that Harrison Ford is open to the idea of reprising his role as Han Solo.

Details at this stage are few and the outlet's source regarding Ford is unnamed, but the 70-year-old actor is still going strong having recently starred in Cowboys & Aliens and set for upcoming appearances in Ender's Game, 42 and Paranoia. It was also only a few years ago that Ford re-teamed with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and rumors persist that Lucasfilm's famous archaeologist may yet make a fifth big screen appearance.

The only solid information on Star Wars: Episode VII at this stage, however, is the plan to see it hit theaters in 2015. As always, check back for details as they become available.

J.J. Abrams to Direct Star Wars: Episode VII!

Star Trek Into Darkness helmer J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII for Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm, reports TheWrap. The site says that Ben Affleck was also in contention.

Back in November, Abrams commented on the possibility of him directing and it sounded like it wasn't happening:

"Look, Star Wars is one of my favorite movies of all time. I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series. I was never a big Star Trek fan growing up, so for me, working on Star Trek didn’t have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more then anyone to the next iterations of Star Wars, but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer!"

TheWrap adds that Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy has been courting Abrams for the director's chair for a while.

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015. Michael Arndt is writing the script. Disney and Lucasfilm are planning a new trilogy with a new movie coming every other year.

Bin ja gespannt was George Lukas dazu sagt.

Could Yoda Get a Stand-Alone Star Wars Film?

Although last month's rumor of a stand-alone Star Wars film directed by Zack Snyder was immediately shot down, Ain't It Cool News has a brand new one that says that a film is being planned that will follow the adventures of Yoda. This feature, the site claims, is one of several in the works that will give famous characters solo films not directly connected to the new trilogy that will begin with J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII.

Assuming the rumors pan out, details on what a Yoda film might entail are unclear and no talent is, as of yet, rumored to be attached.

Episode VII is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015 at the earliest, meaning that if there are plans for a Yoda film, it's likely to be some years off.

New Star Wars Stand-Alone Films to Follow Boba Fett and Young Han Solo

Less than 24 hours after Walt Disney Pictures officially confirmed plans to develop stand-alone feature films in the Star Wars universe, EW is reporting that they have learned which two characters the first two projects will focus on: Boba Fett and a young Han Solo.

Plans for the Solo film call for it to take place in the time between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy. No plot details have been revealed, but it's a near-certainty that a brand new actor would have to step in to play everyone's favorite scruffy looking Nerf-herder.

The adventures of Han Solo pre-A New Hope was actually the focus of one of the earliest Star Wars novels, 1979's "Han Solo at Star's End," set two years before the events of the 1977 film.

The Boba Fett film, meanwhile, would be set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back and would follow the bounty hunter on an intergalactic adventure.

Both of the the films (of which Lawrence Kasdan is said to be writing one and Simon Kinberg writing the other) are tentatively planned to see release sometime after 2015 when J.J. Abrams' Episode VII is planned to hit theaters.

Previous rumors called for a stand-alone film to follow the adventures of Yoda, but that has not yet been confirmed.

Carrie Fisher Says She'll be Back for Star Wars: Episode VII

As pre-production on J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII continues, rumors have been swirling that several of the original trilogy's principle stars will be making a return to the big screen in 2015. Today, Palm Beach Illustrated managed to get a very brief confirmation from Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher.

"Yes," Fisher responded simply when the outlet asked if she'd be back for the new film.

Fisher, who was recently on the big screen in films like Fanboys and Sorority Row, had previously indicated that she'd be delighted to return as Leia. It has been heavily rumored that Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill will be back as well as Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, respectively.

Star Wars: Episode VII is currently planned for a 2015 release and will feature a screenplay from Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine screenwriter Michael Arndt.
