With production set to begin next month on the Lionsgate sequel, Deadline is reporting that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzengger are set to return for The Expendables 2 in expanded "subtantial" roles.
Set to be directed by Simon West, the followup to the 2010 hit is currently pulling together its action hero cast with Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross at the base. As of now, no other actors have been confirmed, but many of the original film's cast are likely.
Co-written and directed by Stallone, The Expendables also starred. Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, David Zayas, Giselle Itie, Charisma Carpenter, Gary Daniels, Terry Crews and Mickey Rourke.
Willis is currently shooting G.I. Joe 2 and, after The Expendables, plans to tackle Die Hard 5. Schwarzenegger, long absent from Hollywood due to his political career, will, following the sequel, headline the Western The Last Stand, set for production in early 2012.

Last week, it was announced that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger would return for The Expendables 2 with expanded roles. Now, Sylvester Stallone confirms to EW that the long-rumored casting of Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme is also true. What's more, the Face/Off pair of Nicolas Cage and John Travolta may be getting into the action as well.
“We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme," Stallone told the outlet, "which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one."
Co-written and directed by Stallone, the original Expendables also starred Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, David Zayas, Giselle Itie, Charisma Carpenter, Gary Daniels, Terry Crews and Mickey Rourke. For the second go-round, Simon West will be handling directing duties.
With production beginning next month in Bulgaria, Stallone is still finalizing plans about who will appear, though he hints that Cage is close to a lock and Travolta is bit more uncertain.
“It’s possible," he said of the unconfirmed casting, "The one thing I’ve learned is what is a fact on Monday is a complete fallacy on Tuesday. A lot of it is scheduling. It’s not financial. It’s just that Bulgaria is definitely a jaunt. It’s a commitment, you know what I mean? Especially in the dead of winter.”
The Expendables 2 is planning an August 17, 2012 release.

Stuntman Dies on the Set of The Expendables 2
The Sofia Echo reports that a stuntman died on the set of The Expendables 2 and another was injured and taken to the hospital.
The accident happened on the Ognyanovo dam near Elin Pelin in Bulgaria. The men were performing a stunt in a rubber boat that involved an explosion. They were members of the film's second unit, while the main unit was shooting in Bansko, about two-and-a-half hours away, at the time.
The site says the injured stuntman is in stable condition but is unconscious. He reportedly underwent a five-hour long operation on the night of October 27.
Nu Image/Millennium Films confirmed the accident, saying: "It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident. Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident."
The Expendables 2 is expected to wrap filming in December for an August 17, 2012 release. Simon West is directing a cast that includes Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Liam Hemsworth.

This morning, fan site Expendables Premiere linked to a story from Polish website Gazeta with the below (translated) quote attributed to The Expendables 2 star Chuck Norris:
"In 'Expendables 2', there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. For this reason, many young people wouldn't be able to watch this. But I don't play in movies like this. Due to that, I said I wouldn't be a part of that if the hardcore language is not erased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13."
Since the first film embraced its R-rating, many fans were hoping that Norris' comment were the result of a faulty translation. Ain't It Cool News, however, now has an update from Sylvester Stallone himself, confirming that The Expendables 2 is, indeed, aiming for a PG-13.
"The PG13 rumor is true," Stallone writes, "but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry."
Directed by Simon West, the sequel stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger and will hit theaters on August 17th.
