The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Starts Principal Photography
Summit Entertainment announced today that it has commenced principal photography on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, directed by David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy) from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner will reprise their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black. The third film in the studio's "Twilight" film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster book series, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
Along with director David Slade, several new actors are joining the "Twilight" family including Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria, Xavier Samuel as Riley, Catalina Sandino Moreno as Maria, Jack Huston as Royce King, Julia Jones as Leah, BooBoo Stewart as Seth, and Jodelle Ferland as Bree.
Also continuing in the saga as The Cullen Family are Ashley Greene as Alice, Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme, Kellan Lutz as Emmett, Nikki Reed as Rosalie, and Jackson Rathbone as Jasper. Billy Burke also returns as Charlie Swan. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is filming on location in Vancouver, BC.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse brings back members of the Quileute Indian Nation; the classmates of Bella and Edward; and the legendary Volturi, a venerable coven of vampires who weigh and impose the laws of the vampire world.
In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has already set two records - widest release ever and biggest midnight opening.
The third film in the franchise earned more than $30 million from about 4,000 theaters at midnight, a figure that will be added to the Wednesday grosses. The previous midnight record was held by The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which opened to $26.3 million. "Eclipse" earned about $1 million from 192 IMAX theaters at midnight, a new record for the company.

Eclipse Blocks Out Sunny 4th of July Weekend
The 4th of July weekend saw the release of Summit Entertainment's anticipated threequel The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, reuniting Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner with new director David Slade at the helm for the third movie based on Stephenie Meyer's popular supernatural romance. It started off its six-day extended run by setting a new Wednesday record with $68.5 million (essentially making back its production costs), dropping drastically on Thursday, then adding another estimated $82.5 million over the four-day holiday weekend including estimates for Monday for a six-day total of $175.3 million. $9 million of that gross came from IMAX screenings, while internationally, Eclipse brought in $100.2 million in 42 countries over the three-day weekend.
The most interesting comparison for Eclipse is Spider-Man 2, which was released in the same manner over Fourth of July in 2004. The "Spider-Man" sequel opened weaker with $40.4 million on its Wednesday then grossing $88.1 million over the three-day weekend, almost twice its opening day, and then setting a new record for the holiday, one that Eclipse failed to surpass. Eclipse essentially made the same in its first three-day weekend as its opening day due to its record $30 million from midnight screenings on Tuesday night. While Spider-Man 2 went on to gross $373 million, Eclipse is more likely to end up in the $300 mil. range.
