World of Warcraft to the Big Screen

Warner Bros.-based Legendary Pictures has picked up film rights to adapt the popular fantasy video game franchise World of Warcraft and will develop the project with game publisher Blizzard Entertainment, which is owned by Vivendi.
While the "Warcraft" franchise has been around for more than a decade, the most recent iteration, the megahit online title "World of Warcraft," has transformed the video game industry.
Unlike most games, where players pay $50 once and play until they're done, more than 6 million people around the world pay $14.99 per month to participate in the multiplayer game.
Legendary put up half the money for Warners' Batman Begins and the upcoming Superman Returns.

Hab die Meldung gerade eine WoW-Dauerdaddler geschickt ... wirklich begeistert war er nicht. Das die nun wirklich alles immer auf die große Leinwand bringen müssen. Aber nunja, vielleicht wird das ja doch besser als erwartet, auch wenn ich mir das als Film nicht vorstellen kann.

Hoffentlich verbreitet sich der geistige Realitätsverlust vieler Spieler nicht aufs Kino aus ... "In the Mouth of Madness"-mäßig! 
Hab das Spiel selber mal mein Eigen genannt, fand es aber ziemlich langweilig. Die meisten Bekannten von mir sehen das leider anders: Ich hab schon zu von ihnen dahinscheiden sehen ...  |

Kotaku attended BlizzCon, Blizzard Entertainment's annual Anaheim, CA event, and learned new details about Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' big screen adaptation of popular fantasy video game franchise Warcraft.
The site says that representatives from Blizzard and Legendary hosted a panel on the film which included Blizzard's Paul Sams and Chris Metzen and Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull and Chief Creative Officer Jon Jashni. They confirmed that the Warcraft movie will be live-action with a yet to be determined level of CG environments and effects. They are still planning for a 2009 release.
Sams, Metzen and Jashni said they did not want to "create another video game movie" but to "create an epic." The script is still in the works and there is no director yet, but they did confirm the story would take place about a year before the events in "World of Warcraft" take place. The film will be told from the Alliance perspective.

Thematisch dreht sich die Geschichte um die Kulturen und den Konflikt der Allianz und Horde. Es werden also die Rassen und Länder zu sehen sein, die die World-of-Warcraft-Spieler kennen. Außerdem soll es einen neuen Heldencharakter geben. Der World-of-Warcraft-Film kommt voraussichtlich 2009 in die Kinos und soll die Zuschauer zwei bis zweieinhalb Stunden unterhalten.

Laut imdb kommt der zuerst, macht auch viel mehr sinn als ein WoW Film hat alle drei Spiele haben ja relativ viel inhalt!

Hatte das auch immer so verstanden, dass die erstmal Warcraft verfilmen wollen, als WoW da muss man sich ja keine Story mehr ausdenken, da ist ja schon eine vorhanden! |

Ich hoffe doch sehr, dass die Medivhs und die Geschichten all der anderen erzählen, als irgendeinen schwachsinn zu produzieren, den dann nur die Fans verstehen, dass fände ich sehr schade! |

Aber guck mal wenn du da World of Warcraft eingibst dann findet der keinen Film, also meinen sie Warcraft wohl mit World of Warcraft.
Wenn du raufklickst steht ja auch:

Wohl eher mit dem Konflikt zwischen HOrde und Allianz der wieder auftritt, dem pflanzen vom Teldrassil etc, ich will trotzdem viel lieber nen Warcraft - Film haben!!! |

Ja aber wie will man aus WoW einen ganzen Film machen, das passt PERFEKT für eine sehr coole Serie, von der Komplexität her!
Außerdem noch was: Illidan ist sowieso der coolste, denn er ist BLIND und nicht TAUB! |

In einer Petition rufen entsetzte Spiele-Fans Boll dazu auf, keine Filme mehr zu drehen. Mittlerweile haben über 215.000 Menschen unterschrieben.

Raimi directed the "Spider-Man" trilogy, which has broken box-office records around the world and garnered five Academy Award nominations.
