Chiklis Talks Fantastic Four 3
This past weekend, IGN attended the FOX TCA (Television Critics Association) party,
where stars from both the network and its sister cable channel, FX, were present.
One of those stars was The Shield's Michael Chiklis, and while talking to him about
the upcoming season of his gritty series, we also discussed his role as Ben Grimm,
a.k.a. The Thing, in the upcoming Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. In addition,
Chiklis also gave us a little bit of information about where the third movie in the series
might take his character. (click the headline to read the interview)

Theatrical Trailer Delayed; No Teaser Poster with Ghost Rider
20th Century Fox have informed us that the teaser poster for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer will not be in theaters in time for Ghost Rider as previously expected. This delay may coincide with the fact that the theatrical trailer release date, which was originally planned for March 9th (with Warner Bros 300), has had to be pushed back to late March.

Trailer geworben, obwohl schon bessere verfügbar waren. Aber hier ging es ja mehr
um die Promo in den USA, und die war schon beim 1. Teil sehr umfangreich, und wird
es wohl auch dieses Jahr werden, wenn auch etwas komprimierter als letztens.
Und nochwas zum Score:

John Ottman Begins Work on Fantastic Four 2
Last July we brought you the scoop on John Ottman returning to score Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. John has now informed us that he has officially begun to work on the score for the movie, and has shared some of his thoughts about the score with us.
On the Fan 4 Theme:
"Now that I've started working on the film, it feels good to be in familiar territory. It looks as though there might be more areas this time around to squeeze in the Fan 4 theme, and there's also a possibility the film may have a full-fledged title sequence this time around so I can introduce the theme properly and get the adrenaline going as I had wanted to in the first film. As many know, in the 11th hour on the first film, the title sequence was cut out, and so the Fan 4 theme wasn't able to be introduced in the traditions of these types of films. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
On the Silver Surfer and Previous Themes:
What's fun about Fan 4 is that it's lighter fare which makes it easier to have fun musically without having to ride some careful darkly tinged line. The Silver Surfer offers new territory, and we're thinking of making his music a little more of a modern fusion between orchestra and electronics. It's too early to know exactly what I'll do yet. I also love how resurrecting the previous themes gives a cohesiveness between the two films, for instance the little love theme between Reed and Susan really keeps there personal story going from the first movie."
Thanks to John for keeping us all up-to-date on his progress with the movie, we hope that he has a great time putting together the score, and look forward to hearing what he has come up with over the coming months. You can check out his official website at JohnOttman.com.

Ralph Winter talks about Fantastic Four 2
How can you not be a fan of Ralph Winter? He gets to make all the cool movies! Here he chats us up about the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer, the future of the X-Men, and gives us The Screwtape Letters scoop! And did somebody say "Galactus"?
Robin: It's been a few years since we last talked. How are things? What are you working on now?
Ralph: Good, good. I just got back from Vancouver, working on Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. We're getting started with post-production on that. We've got other stuff going on, like getting [Ted Dekker's] Thr3e out. And I'm working on a lot of development, getting other projects up and running.
How's Fantastic Four turning out?
Very well. We finished shooting on December 20th. We're thick into post-production right now. It comes out June 15th. Silver Surfer is the new addition to the story, and he's getting a lot of attention. We had a teaser trailer attached to Night at the Museum, and we got a lot of positive response from that. Now we've just got to deliver the darn thing. (Laughs.)
You know, there's a moment in that trailer, where if you freeze it on a close-up of the Surfer's face, you can catch a bit of a resemblance to Doug Jones. [Editor's note: Doug Jones is the actor who portrays the effects-driven Silver Surfer.]
Yeah, yeah, a little. We're using Weta, who did Lord of the Rings, to do the CGI work for the Surfer, and Doug is heavily involved with providing motion capture and all that stuff.
So is the Silver Surfer being visually achieved entirely through CGI?
It's a combination of CGI, and some on-set motion capturing of Doug. Pulling this whole thing together is what Weta is charged with doing, and they'll be putting the final product into the scenes.
This one's for all the Doug Jones fans out there, myself included: Will Doug's voice be the voice of the Silver Surfer?
We don't know yet. We're not sure. That was clear up front, as part of Doug's contract. We don't really have a clear direction on that at the moment. We listened to a lot of different voices, and there's a possibility we may go with what Doug provided on-set.
In the first draft of the script, the Silver Surfer wasn't going to speak at all. It was thought that that might make him more mysterious, and maybe he might say one or two words, or one or two sentences. And it's grown from that, but not that much. There's an air of mystery about him that we want to keep. That would be a decision that we're going to make in March or April.
I can see how that would fit with the character. He's got kind of a standoffish, super-other-worldly power vibe, when we first meet him.
Truly less is more. [Director] Tim Story is cutting the movie together now, so we'll see how all of that comes together. I think once we've seen the whole sweep of the movie -- how it plays, how it feels -- then we'll probably dig in and say, "What's the best way to handle Surfer and his arc? Does he talk more or talk less? Is it Doug's voice or someone else's voice?"
I fully expect you to say no to this question... (Laughs.)
(Laughs.)
Can you tell us, in this version of the Silver Surfer's story, if he is still the herald of Galactus, as he is in the comics?
Yeah. That is part of the story. That is part of what we talk about in the story. That is something our characters will discover along the way. But how that plays out -- whether we see Galactus, how much of Galactus you'll see -- I can't answer that question at the moment because we truly don't know. I'm not being coy, we just haven't made a decision yet. We want to cut the movie together, play it out, and see if that's necessary or needed, or if it's something we can play in another movie. There is no specific plan mapped out about Galactus right now, but that is definitely the reason that the Silver Surfer comes to earth.
Sounds like the perfect setup for a third movie.
Yeah, and that's what we want to play out. How well does this play without Galactus?
There will be some fans who feel cheated if they don't get at least a glimpse of Galactus in there somewhere.
Maybe. And we understand that. We don't want to disappoint anyone, but it is a tightrope. June 15th is coming quickly. We've sketched out ideas of what Galactus might look like, but we really have not yet made any decisions. We have to see the movie put together first, which should happen very soon.
Galactus would be a whole other challenge in his own right, in how to pull off visually without being completely cheesy.
That's right. Less is more with that as well.
Okay, switching gears... Are you happy with how X-Men 3 turned out?

Ioan Gruffudd on Fantastic Four 2
Mr. Fantastic talks about the sequel
ComingSoon.net has posted an exclusive new interview with Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer star Ioan Gruffudd (AKA Mr. Fantastic), in which he talks about the superhero sequel. Here's a clip:
CS: Has a lot of time passed for the characters between the first movie and this one coming up?
Gruffudd: I suppose yes. There's two years that's evolved in our lives as actors so I guess yes, time has passed, and we're now established firmly as the Fantastic Four in everybody's consciousness. We can't walk down the street without being followed by paparazzi, so we're really embracing the fact that these guys don't have their anonymity. They live amongst us in New York City, and they start to question that. Do they really want to live this life and have this pressure of being super heroes or would they like to live a life of solitude out in the countryside somewhere? So they grapple with that.
Check out the full interview here!

Mr. Fantastic Expands On Cradling Jessica Alba, Wearing Powdered Wigs
Ioan Gruffudd also hints at 'Silver Surfer' secrets, including possible Galactus appearance.
BEVERLY HILLS, California — We all knew Mr. Fantastic could stretch, but who knew he could go this far? In Michael Apted's "Amazing Grace," fast-rising star Ioan Gruffudd portrays William Wilberforce, the revolutionary who helped end the British slave trade. Come June, he'll move back into summer-blockbuster territory, once again portraying Reed Richards in "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." We caught up with the charismatic actor recently for some invaluable advice on how to pull off a powdered wig, work a dance number into a superhero movie — and get away with groping Jessica Alba.
MTV: First we see you with Mr. Fantastic's streaks, and now you've got a powdered wig. Why is Hollywood fascinated with giving you gray hair?
Ioan Gruffudd: [He laughs.] I've wondered the same thing! To me, I always insist on having a costume, of some nature, in everything I do. Even if it's blue spandex or a theater costume — and of course, part and parcel of that is the wig.
MTV: Do you expect your fame as Mr. Fantastic to draw a different audience than could normally be expected for a biopic on an 18th British abolitionist?
Gruffudd: That is something that has presented itself since we started promoting ["Grace"], is, "Damn, we should be taking advantage of the fact that I am Mr. Fantastic!" So we've been pushing talking about both movies in the same breath, absolutely.
MTV: Even beneath your powdered wig, you're wearing other wigs. How many hairpieces were you dragging around?
Gruffudd: Well, when I was playing young Wilberforce in Parliament, that was just a wig to represent real hair. Then, of course, you've got the wigs that they put on for the powdered wigs. You've just got to get over the way you look in them to begin with, and then get over them sticking on your head. Inevitably, the wind gets hold of any wig, so sometimes it would blow off and pose a lot of fun incidents.
MTV: So we can look forward to some fun deleted scenes on the DVD, perhaps?
Gruffudd: [He laughs.] Loads, loads.
MTV: Wilberforce was handed great wealth, fame and comfort in his early 20s, then nearly threw it all away to free the slaves. Watching the film, you can't help but wonder whether you'd be brave enough to do the same.
Gruffudd: That's what makes these people so great. I would put him in the same category as Nelson Mandela or Gandhi or Dr. Martin Luther King, who stood up and had their voices heard against insurmountable odds.
MTV: The title comes from the classic hymn, and you display a wonderful singing voice in this film. Is that all you?
Gruffudd: All of it, in its entirety, is me. Yes. It was recorded live.
MTV: Is it your hope that the Marvel Comics people get a look at it and give Mr. Fantastic a musical number?
Gruffudd: [He laughs.] Yes, maybe a little bit of singing for the third movie, yeah.
MTV: What would be the perfect song for Mr. Fantastic to sing?
Gruffudd: [He laughs.] I don't know ... "Twist and Shout"? He could literally twist as he sang it.
MTV: If you had Mr. Fantastic's powers in real life, what would you do with them?
Gruffudd: You'd be able to play some great pranks on people from another room, wouldn't you? You'd be able to reach over and tap them on the shoulder and freak them out! You could also reach into the refrigerator and get another Diet Coke — or beer, in my circumstance.
MTV: You've killed so much time with her on these sets, so give the single guys out there some help: What's the best way to Jessica Alba's heart?
Gruffudd: It's gotta be her sense of humor. She calls me the big, goofy guy. I try to make her laugh and she's like, "You're so silly!"
MTV: What's the easiest way to make her laugh?
Gruffudd: The one thing that always makes her laugh is when I do my "dirty old man."
MTV: Excuse me?
Gruffudd: [He laughs.] I've got my tongue sticking out, I'm trying to make the ugliest face possible, and I'm chasing after her and trying to grope her. But, of course, I never catch her because I'm an old, withering man. That always makes her laugh.
MTV: The Silver Surfer looks amazing in the trailer for the "Fantastic Four" sequel. But how will Mr. Fantastic be different this time around?
Gruffudd: He becomes the leader that we know and love from the comic books. As much as he is a scientist and could be deemed a bit of a nerd, he has now stepped into those boots of being the leader — everybody looks to him for leadership throughout this movie. You'll see the evolution of him, because at the beginning of the movie he's very excited about getting married [to Alba's Invisible Woman] and slightly nervous, as he was in the first one. Then, once the Silver Surfer arrives, he is a man of action. He steps into the breach, as it were, and takes him on.
MTV: What's the one scene in "Surfer" that you can't wait for the world to see?
Gruffudd: I'm looking forward to everyone seeing the last scene of the movie. When we were shooting it, I thought it was so spectacular to the naked eye — I can only imagine what it's going to look like on the big screen. We had everything there: lighting effects, rain, wind machines, it was just fantastic ... I got to cradle Jessica Alba for like two or three weeks whilst we were shooting the last sequence.
MTV: Will this big finale somehow involve Galactus?
Gruffudd: Possibly. [He laughs.] ... He will have a great presence in the movie, yeah, certainly.
